RAW FOOD 365

Update Time!

It’s been a long time coming, this is something I have been wanting and dreaming of for the last 5 years.  I’ve never tried and failed in the past, but I have tried and continued learning, plenty of times.  However, the time has finally come and the roller coaster has begun.

I’ve embarked on a 365 Day Journey with nothing but raw food.  Yes, raw food.  No cooked food, no alcohol, no coffee, no processed food, no baked goods, I think you get the picture.  Simply food, real food.  Fruit in it’s whole form, including frozen fruit.  Vegetables (including all greens) in their uncooked birthday suites.  And to drink?  The only acceptable liquid is water or home made fruit/veg juice.

The journey began on July 1st, 2017.  So far, it’s been a joy.  I was expecting the first couple of weeks to be the hardest, but in fact they were the easiest!  I prepared myself mentally, this was the key.  I’ve practiced on and off for 5 years, so this is NOT uncharted territory.  I have many raw foodist friends to consult with and confide in should I need some guidance or support.  Community is key!

If you want to know more of what I am eating day-to-day please follow me on INSTAGRAM!

I don’t want it to seem that I am pushing others to join me or that this is the one and only way to thrive.  However.. I certainly, unapologetically, encourage people to always research where there food comes from, encourage them to make improvements no matter where they are starting from, and to simply care, try, and experiment!  The way we feel, think, and perform in this world is directly related to our diet.  Our diet influences our physical being and metal state, this is who we are.  You are literally what you eat, everything is connected.  You and I are living breathing organisms, made up mostly of water.  We need living food for our living bodies.  I would not do this if it didn’t mean the world to me.  You cannot compare life on this planet on raw food vs processed cooked food (even vegan).  It’s day and night.  And I prefer.. day.

I am always looking to coach and guide so don’t be shy, I’m here for you.

Zoodles for Days RECIPE

What do you do when you see Organic Zucchini on the reduction rack at your local grocery store? You buy them ALL!!! And you make Zoodles, lots of them.

Zoodles are noodles, only made from raw zucchini.  You will need a spiralizer, this handy piece of equipment can be purchased off amazon for an affordable price, and turns zucchini into noodles!

I don’t like formal recipes, so here is how I created this masterpiece..

5 medium zucchinis peeled and noodled using a spiralizer

2 large cucumbers peeled and noodled using a spiralizer

chopped tomatoes, raw corn, chia seeds (you can add ANYTHING you like, whatever is in the fridge!)

carrot ‘noodles’ made with a vegetable peeler

THE SAUCE

The sauce is everything.

I blended one large perfectly ripe avocado, 1 peeled small zucchini (this doubles the volume), generous handful of herbs from the garden including basil and chives, a small tomato, and lemon juice.

Salt free. Oil free. Gluten free. Guilt free. Dairy free. Sugar free.  Just a big bowl of LOVE and hydration, fibre, vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. Everything your body needs, and nothing it doesn’t.  You’ll want to run after, not nap.

Mulberry Season Adventures

These are NOT pesky trees that stain our sidewalks and shoes.

These are tough trees that withstand harsh winters, and provide perfect purple bundles of nutrition that literally fall from the heavens!  They have survived urbanization, pollution, and deforestation.  Give them some praise will yah’.

We get such a thrill from checking them daily for ripeness, and having that green light once they start to fall.  Having the experience of eating something straight from the source, with no steps in between is so rare these days.. It’s called being high on life.

The excitement from the kids to pick.. ‘just one more’ is such a joy to watch.  We are designed to climb trees, and our fingers are perfectly made for picking fruit like this.

Eating high fiber, high water, nutrient dense, antioxidant rich food is how we thrive and survive.

Berries that we bring home are used for hot days like this.  Just blend some with frozen bananas and water for purple nice cream.  Easy and delicious!

Keep your eyes open for fruit in your area..

Our wild purple raspberries are next 🙂

Stay tuned.

Welcome to Eden (recipe?)

IMG_20160623_031113

Eating food, just food, why is that so strange? That’s how they did it in Eden, why shouldn’t I strive for that?  Well I do, every day.  It sounds too good to be true.. living in harmony among the animals, eating in abundance.. uhhh that’s basically what it feels like to live this way!!

Simple.  It’s my favourite way to eat.  No actual recipes, just delicious combinations.  Like this one.. juicy tomato, ripe sweet mango, lettuce and basil picked from the garden.  Nothing more.  It’s fabulous!

I do believe this is the food in heaven’s buffet.  The God that I believe in provided me with this to eat, and so I happily accept the offering.  I don’t come up with reasons why this isn’t enough, or unsatisfying, or missing something..  I focus on why it is perfect.  THANK YOU.  Living food for a living body.  I celebrate what this does for me, and I reap the benefits.

“On Earth As It Is In Heaven”

~ Holy GUACAMOLE Recipe ~

Who doesn’t love a classic creamy GUAC? Seriously?

guacHere’s my quick and easy version.. and yes, this is a meal!!  For anyone who may think I eat a handful of spinach and grass every day, not the case! 😜😂😆 here’s THE PROOF.

3-4 RIPE Avocados

1 cup chopped cilantro

Juice of 2-3 limes

1/4 cup diced red onion

handful of chopped cherry tomatoes

Raw corn kernels (slice off one ear of corn)

Optional additions: Red bell pepper, hemp seeds, chilli flakes or spice of your choice!

Simply combine all ingredients, except avocados.  Mash ripe avocados in a separate bowl and then mix everything together.  Add more lime juice if necessary.  I prefer to keep all my recipes salt free, but feel free to add this if you must.

Eat with anything you like! I enjoy it spread on romaine lettuce leaves, with carrot sticks or cucumber slices, or even with a spoon.

Enjoy!  & let me know in the comments if you have an epic guac combo, I am always looking for new flavours.

Bye for now,

N
