Nice Cream. Thank me later..

Hi Fruity Family!

I’m alive and well.  Raw Food 365 is in full swing, and I’m happy to say I am thriving in month 5!  The things I eat day to day vary quite a lot, but nice cream seems to always be on the menu at least every couple of days.  I change up the recipe depending on who I’m making it for.  This recipe and method is for the family, but easy to clean up and raw-ify for myself. Here is how I turn bananas into pure love..

What you’ll need..

2 bunches ripe spotty bananas

almond milk

natural peanut butter (optional)

cocoa powder/carob powder (optional)

pure maple syrup (optional)

Vitamix/any high speed blender/food processor

What you’ll do..

The day before: Peel bananas and break each into 2-3 pieces. Freeze them in a sealable reusable container.  Also, pour your choice of almond milk into an ice cube tray. Freeze overnight.

The day of:  Place 4-5 frozen bananas and 2-3 almond milk cubes into the blender.  Add a splash of almond milk to help get the blender started.  Use the tamper tool to press down the bananas, it’s an aggressive arm work-out don’t be afraid to show that blender who’s boss.  This will be your base.. from here you can add any flavour combination you like! Frozen fruit for a sorbet feel, cocoa powder, peanut butter, vanilla extract, etc.  You can be as creative as you like!  Our favourite is maple syrup and natural peanut butter, or throw in a few spoon fulls of cocoa powder and you can satisfy any chocolate craving.  Top with organic cacao nibs or a home made sauce.  Check out my Instagram for sauce recipes!

Update Time!

It’s been a long time coming, this is something I have been wanting and dreaming of for the last 5 years.  I’ve never tried and failed in the past, but I have tried and continued learning, plenty of times.  However, the time has finally come and the roller coaster has begun.

I’ve embarked on a 365 Day Journey with nothing but raw food.  Yes, raw food.  No cooked food, no alcohol, no coffee, no processed food, no baked goods, I think you get the picture.  Simply food, real food.  Fruit in it’s whole form, including frozen fruit.  Vegetables (including all greens) in their uncooked birthday suites.  And to drink?  The only acceptable liquid is water or home made fruit/veg juice.

The journey began on July 1st, 2017.  So far, it’s been a joy.  I was expecting the first couple of weeks to be the hardest, but in fact they were the easiest!  I prepared myself mentally, this was the key.  I’ve practiced on and off for 5 years, so this is NOT uncharted territory.  I have many raw foodist friends to consult with and confide in should I need some guidance or support.  Community is key!

I don’t want it to seem that I am pushing others to join me or that this is the one and only way to thrive.  However.. I certainly, unapologetically, encourage people to always research where there food comes from, encourage them to make improvements no matter where they are starting from, and to simply care, try, and experiment!  The way we feel, think, and perform in this world is directly related to our diet.  Our diet influences our physical being and metal state, this is who we are.  You are literally what you eat, everything is connected.  You and I are living breathing organisms, made up mostly of water.  We need living food for our living bodies.  I would not do this if it didn’t mean the world to me.  You cannot compare life on this planet on raw food vs processed cooked food (even vegan).  It’s day and night.  And I prefer.. day.

Even if you aren’t capable of loving animals, or even other humans different from yourself, do you support harming them?

2017, Bring it.

Hello Fruity Family!

We are well into January 2017 now, and have you kept your resolutions so far? How many have you broken? 😉


It doesn’t matter because today, and every day, is just simply that.. a new day, a new moment.  Never get down on yourself for “failing” because it’s all in your head.. whatever failure you say you had, it’s only because you have labelled it that way.  Flip it around and say.. “I’m either winning, or I’m learning.”  If you are learning a lot, that’s great!  Every negative thought you have about yourself or your actions, are because of you.  Look inward, change your vocabulary, change your attitude, and the actions will follow.

So yes, the worst thing that you can ever do is get down on yourself, it only furthers the spiral downward.  I don’t believe in hitting rock bottom before climbing up.  If we can change our thoughts, and our perception of what’s actually happening, we can change the result.

No matter what, never give up.  Hold your goals, hold your desires, hold your dreams!  If you want it badly enough, you will make it happen.  It may take longer than you expect but who cares.. if you want it enough the only sure way of getting it is to devote all you have.. trust me, the years will pass anyway!

The Calcium Choice

True Story,

Calcium is a mineral found in the earth.

Calcium is present in plants that grow from mineral rich soil.

Animals eat these plants and obtain calcium, cows eating grass is a perfect example.

Calcium is then transferred to the mother cow’s breastmilk, same goes for zebra milk, giraffe milk, rabbit milk, etc. Nature knows.

Here’s the kicker.. you have a choice.

1. Obtain calcium and other minerals by eating nutrient rich plants.  OR   2. Drink the BREASTMILK of the animal who ate plants.

😑 hhmmm (Insert Jeopardy theme song)

If you chose #1 and you prefer to obtain your calcium directly from the source, dark leafy greens are a great place to start!


It’s very important to not only obtain calcium regularly, but even more important to keep it in your bones!  Eating an alkaline diet rich in fruits and vegetables is the best way.

A diet high in processed food and animal products (including dairy) is highly acidic, and your body will leach calcium from your bones to remain in an alkaline state.  Alkaline = health

You didn’t think all those calcium supplements in the supermarket were for vegans did you?  And have you ever wondered why a society that virtually eats dairy at every meal, would have even the slightest instance of osteoporosis?  

I remember doing a project on osteoporosis in grade school, and my conclusion was.. eat and drink as much dairy as possible for strong growing bones.  😝  Thank the heavens for today’s information age – the internet – where you can find sources of information outside of what is driven by the dairy industry.  I’m still a little hurt that I was lied to – can you tell?  My only regret about my lifestyle change, is that I didn’t do it sooner.

I encourage you to clean your slate.  To read both sides of the story.  Unlearn and relearn.  Never stop investigating.  Experiment with yourself.  Get some blood work done.  Don’t take my word for it.  Read read read.  Ask ask ask.  Try try try.

And most importantly.. never, ever, listen to the TV.



Falafels for Days

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share our falafels with you all because they have been a huge hit around here, and I thought you may enjoy them as well!



1 can of rinsed chickpeas

1 small onion roughly chopped

3-4 cloves of garlic roughly chopped

1 cup chopped fresh parsley

3 tbsp flour (wheat or GF)

1 tsp salt

2 tsp cumin

1 tsp ground coriander

1 tsp ground black pepper

1 cup panko bread crumbs

Vegetable oil for frying


Add everything to a food processor and pulse until all ingredients (except the bread crumbs) are well combined, but not completely smooth.  I used my vitamix blender and it worked very well, I used the lowest setting and mashed everything together using the tamper.

Form into balls or patties by hand, and roll them in the bread crumbs.

Fry them until the outside is golden brown.  Bake them for about 10-15 minutes at 375F.

For SOS free falafels, omit the salt and skip the frying! A much healthier option!

Toss them into a salad, or eat them for lunch in a wrap.  They are a great alternative to meat and can be eaten hot or cold.

One of the things that makes me most happy in life is the fact that I have been able to unlearn, and relearn.

It’s not something many people know is possible.  But it is such a beautiful thing!  You can actually change your habits, change your entire life, based on new information and application.

This is actually what we are supposed to learn from decades of schooling! We are supposed to take the tools of proper research and critical thinking, and apply them to our lives.  Instead though, most of us continue to live in the ways that have been taught, not ever questioning or considering that perhaps there is another way.

Maybe the newsman is lying? Maybe there is more to life than paying bills?  Maybe health is in our hands, not our doctors? Maybe we can live on plant food alone?  Maybe we can prevent and even reverse heart disease, diabetes and cancer?  Maybe education has nothing to do with school?  Maybe toddlers need breastmilk as much as babies do?   Maybe our bodies don’t need cow milk as much as they don’t need giraffe milk?  Maybe being rich has nothing to do with money?  Maybe happiness is a choice?  Maybe I will no longer care what other people think?  Maybe God doesn’t eat animal flesh? Maybe God gave up on humanity after he saw that we still kill each other (and children!) in the name of religion, destroy forests to build parking lots, poison lakes and oceans with oil, murder billions of animals for taste and greed.. maybe He found another planet and started again?  Maybe He’s right here?  Maybe Buddhists are onto something?  Maybe we should think for ourselves?  Maybe I can live on fruit?  Maybe I will live on fruit.  Maybe I can do a triathlon every year for the rest of my life?  Maybe I will live to be 132?  Maybe my kid

The questions are endless… as they should be.

The answers we find aren’t what’s important, but it’s that we never stop asking them!!!  It’s never too late to explore what you believe to be “absolutely” true.  Because there is one thing I can guarantee.. is that there are many people out there who believe the EXACT OPPOSITE to be ABSOLUTELY TRUE!!

Unlearning can be a tough pill to swallow.  It’s hard to take a truth that we have believed all our lives, and then all of a sudden say.. well that doesn’t make sense.  But unlearning is beautiful.  It’s like a veil being lifted.  The more you ask, the more you change, the more veils come off.  Soon only your truth is left, and it’s yours, not anyone else’s.

Welcome to.. The Club


Welcome to the Mom Club!

Yes, yes, there’s an unspoken club that we all belong to.   A deep understanding, a common language we all speak, it’s really a thing.

It’s that gentle no judgement look we give each other when one of our kids is melting down, saying “You’re doing a GREAT job” without actually saying it.  It’s the extra firm blink, and head nod, we give each other when one of us is trying to convince our child to simply get in the car.  It’s the “meehh.. good enough” mantra we all adopt, as our kids walk down the sidewalk with no shoes on and gum in their hair…

The other day, I witnessed a new mom enter the club, all on her own.  I badly wanted to go over to her, and literally say.. “welcome to the club..” but that wouldn’t be right.  To enter into the club, one has to let themselves in.

Picture this.. I’m at a coffee shop with a mom friend (I still hang out in them yah know), reminding myself what it’s like to actually speak with an adult other than my husband and my next door neighbours 🙂 . Not too far from us is a new mom sitting, sitting, with her little baby (7 weeks old was my educated guess).

How did I know she was a new mom? And not a mom with older children in school or daycare?

Because second, third, fourth time moms don’t even bother going to coffee shops with 7-weekers, bringing and opening up a laptop, putting a fiction book on the table, and taking the lid off a hot brew to let it cool down, as if they would be able to drink it there.  They already know..

It’s like that scene in Frozen when Olaf is singing about summer, and Kristoff says something like, “I’m gonna tell him..”  and Anna says.. “don’t you dare!” ~Exactly.

Her face said it all.. I just wanted to give her a hug!  And the baby wasn’t even crying, he was just being a baby, doing what normal babies do. I witnessed in her the moment of realization that nothing, nothing would ever be the same.  Her simple joys of running a quick errand, replying to an email, putting her shoes on and going to the coffee shop to catch up on Facebook and read a chapter or two were.. gone.

Welcome to The Club.

But I’m here today to tell you friends that there is actually ANOTHER club.  An even more secret inner circle, only open to those who are truly looking for another way.

You can’t get into this club, without going through the first one though..

Here are the main differences..

In the first club, the only way out, is waiting it out.   “Scary Mommy” #scarymommy articles are Gospel!  But there’s no way out other than letting the kiddos grow out of each phase and stage..

The second club however has another way out – bare with me..  High five to you for hanging in this long.

The secret is.. You don’t have to wait for the kids to grow up, you can free yourself NOW.  It begins with acceptance, true acceptance.  Acceptance of the new way of life, the new normal. It’s a wonderful beautiful thing, trust me!  There is nothing “wrong” with your baby, it’s you resisting the change, and not wanting to let go…

The secret to happiness in the present is adaptation!  Find joy and happiness in the present, no matter how different it is from the past.  Doing this is no easy task, it takes a lot of practice and patience.

It’s an embrace, an embrace of the new.  And LOVE, love of the NEW YOU.  It doesn’t mean you give up what you used to love, but you learn to love your current life much more than the old, and you find crafty ways of attaining everything you ever wanted and more.

How do I get my kids to eat more fruit and vegetables?!?

I think it’s safe to say that every mom wishes their kids would eat more fruit and veg on a daily basis.

The real question is.. Should mom/dad be eating more fruit and veg on a daily basis?  How many times a day do your kids see you eat it? thoroughly enjoying it ? eating it because it TASTES GOOD and not because it’s good for you?  Craving it? Making a meal of it? Snacking on it?

Work on you, and the children will follow.


Here are a few tips which may speed up the process..

  1. Buy loads of the fruit/veg that they already love.  If they will only eat peeled cucumber slices and strawberries, then give them this every day! Don’t stress about how they don’t want to try asparagus and canary melons, just give them a generous amount of their faves.
  2. Start a trend that with every meal, something fresh needs to be included.  Even if it’s cucumbers and strawberries again, even just one, it’s always a good habit to have something raw and living with each meal.
  3. They need to see you snacking on fruit and veg, and not only saving it for meal times.  Throw a colourful fruit salad together in the late evening they can eat with their hands while watching a movie.  If they insist on their usual oreos and chips, then insist this comes first, they won’t feel like eating the entire box of cookies if their bellies are already full to begin with.
  4. Make it available always, in great abundance! Have it all over your counter and kitchen table, always at arms reach.  Washed and ready to go.
  5. Spend the extra dollars on high quality.  No one wants to eat a sour mango or an old apple.  Raise the quality to raise the desire.
  6. Remember it won’t happen over night!  Be proud that at the very least you are planting seeds in your children.  There will come a day when they are older, and they will remember that health comes in the form of beautifully coloured living foods.   They’ll know exactly what to do because they have seen it somewhere before!

~ Holy GUACAMOLE Recipe ~

Who doesn’t love a classic creamy GUAC? Seriously?  

guacHere’s my quick and easy version.. and yes, this is a meal!!  For anyone who may think I eat a handful of spinach and grass every day, not the case! 😜😂😆 here’s THE PROOF.

3-4 RIPE Avocados

1 cup chopped cilantro

Juice of 2-3 limes

1/4 cup diced red onion

handful of chopped cherry tomatoes

Raw corn kernels (slice off one ear of corn)

Optional additions: Red bell pepper, hemp seeds, chilli flakes or spice of your choice!

Simply combine all ingredients, except avocados.  Mash ripe avocados in a separate bowl and then mix everything together.  Add more lime juice if necessary.  I prefer to keep all my recipes salt free, but feel free to add this if you must.

Eat with anything you like! I enjoy it spread on romaine lettuce leaves, with carrot sticks or cucumber slices, or even with a spoon.
